A town surrounded by the Šventoji valley and pine forests, known as one of Lithuania's most peaceful resorts. Everything is within walking distance of J. Biliūno Street.
Anykščiai is known as one of Lithuania's most peaceful resort towns, but it also offers plenty of active adventures and striking sights worth seeing at least once. Here are five things you shouldn't miss.
One of Lithuania's most popular attractions — a path winding high above the ground, through the crowns of century-old pines. It ends at a 36-metre tower with an observation deck overlooking the whole Šventoji valley. The path is suitable for families with children and wheelchair users.
Just a few minutes from the Treetop Path lies Puntukas — a granite boulder weighing around 265 tonnes, carried here by a glacier 14,000–20,000 years ago. Several legends surround the stone, and in 2000 it was declared a geological natural monument.
Anykščiai's church is one of the tallest in Lithuania, and its tower's observation deck is open to visitors. Climbing it takes quite a few stairs, but the view over the old town and surroundings is worth it — especially at sunset.
In winter, this is home to one of Lithuania's most popular sledding and skiing runs; in summer, it's a great spot for cycling or simply walking. There's also a summer toboggan run that operates even without snow.
Just a short drive from the town centre lies Lake Rubikiai — one of the largest and most beautiful lakes in the Aukštaitija region, famous for its 60 islands. In summer it's great for swimming or boating, and in winter, once the ice sets, horse-drawn sleigh rides are organised right across the frozen lake.
